What is a tithe?
A “tithe” refers to a tenth of our income. We encourage every believer to faithfully give 10% of their income to the Lord through the local church. While the Old Testament promotes the amount of our giving at 10%, the New Testament promotes the attitude of our giving to be cheerful. The New Testament does not remove the tithe, but does add an explanation of our attitude that should be behind the giving. (Proverbs 3:9; Deuteronomy 14:23; 1 Chronicles 29:16; Malachi 3:10; 2 Corinthians 9:6-7)
How can I give?
  • Give at church: Like most churches, you can bring cash or check to any of our services and place it in the secure Giving Box.
  • Give online: At genesisbegins.com you can make a one-time gift or set up a recurring giving schedule so you can rest easy knowing that your “first fruits” are really first. Click here for these options!
  • Give by text: To give by text, please send an amount to 84321. This number does not go to any Genesis Church personnel, it goes straight to our online giving provider. The number is geographically specific, so if you do not live near Genesis Church, you may need to use the “give online” option above.
  • Give by mail: You can mail a check to the address below:
    Genesis Church of Mexico, MO
    315 Meadowlake Drive
    Mexico, MO 65265
  • Give another way: This means from time to time people want to bless the church through other means such as stock/bond transfers, gifts of property, non-cash items, or to include Genesis Church in their living will, etc. For gifts of this nature please contact the church office to complete your giving.

Whatever method you choose to use, thank you so much for giving! Your faithfulness and generosity supports and advances Genesis’ mission of helping people begin a new life in Christ.

Are my gifts tax deductible?
Yes. Your gifts are tax deductible for the tax year in which we deposit and record them.
Will I get a receipt for my giving?
At the end of the year, we will mail out full-year receipts to anyone who gives during the year.
Should I give based on my net income or my gross income?
Ever wonder what people mean when they talk about tithing on gross or net income? The most common view is that gross earnings are the amount of God’s provision, and the tithe should be based on one-tenth of God’s provision. Taxes are generally considered payment for the privileges and services provided by the government. Though scripture doesn’t necessarily use the literal terms “net” or “gross,” it is important to note that the spirit in which we give is of greatest value to God. He tells us in II Corinthians 9 that “each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give; not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
What if I don't have enough money to tithe?
Giving 10% of your income to your church can be a big – and often frightening – commitment! But if scripture tells us to honor Him with our first fruits and our blessings will be overflowing, we must learn to trust that He is faithful to provide. God wants us to trust Him. Seek His guidance in how much you should give, and he will honor your faithfulness and obedience.
Why do you accept credit cards?
Used within the parameters for which they were originally created, debit and credit cards can be an efficient tool for payments and purchases. Many people utilize them in place of checks or cash throughout the month, then pay off the balance in full. For these people, we offer the option of using a credit or debit card to tithe. We strongly discourage those who have ongoing credit card debt from exercising this option.
